About this member

The National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) is a central governmental agency under the Ministry of Education and Culture and was formed in January 2014. Its tasks include the preservation of films and television and radio programmes as well as research related to them, and the promotion of audiovisual culture. KAVI’s Department for Media Education and Audiovisual Media (MEKU) is responsible for the promotion and coordination of media education at a national level, and the supervision of the provision of audiovisual programmes in Finland from the perspective of protection of children.

The NewMedia Centre (NMC) is a media production and expertise centre for education and research. The centre creates video (in a green screen studio and on location), livestreams, animations, infographics, augmented/virtual reality and is responsible for the university’s lecture capture. NMC experiments, together with lecturers and students, with media technology in education, such as holography, 3D models, AR, 360 video and audio and much more.

Within the university, the DigiTeach-Institute (Institute for Digital Transformation and E-Learning) serves as a central unit for advancing digital teaching and learning. It supports lecturers in designing and improving courses using digital technologies, develops innovative teaching concepts, and conducts research on digital education and AI in higher education. The institute provides training, consulting, media production, and support for digital assessments, and actively explores the use of emerging technologies such as generative AI to enhance teaching and learning practices.
